What is a "Specialist Plastic Surgeon"?
A Specialist Plastic Surgeon has completed their Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (or an affiliated International College). This means they have trained for several years under fully qualified Australian Specialist Plastic Surgeons, and completed all requirements including passing several examinations assigned by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Andrew is a member of Royal Australasian College of Surgeon and Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Why a "Specialist" Plastic Surgeon?
We use the term Specialist Plastic Surgeon to differentiate our practice from a number of other surgical practices in Victoria. It is very misleading and concerning to both patients and referring doctors to know that there are many practices using terms such as "Plastic Surgeon", "Cosmetic Surgeon", and "Facial Plastic Surgeon" who have not completed accredited Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
You can go to the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons website www.plasticsurgery.org.au to see if your surgeon has specialist accreditation.
